Casio F-94WA-8

The Casio F-94WA-8 is one of those watches that perfectly demonstrates why Casio’s basic digital watches have remained popular for so long. It’s inexpensive, lightweight, simple and gives you pretty much everything you actually need from an everyday digital watch.

Sitting in the same general territory as watches such as the legendary F-91W, the F-94WA has its own distinctive appearance. The black resin case and strap are paired with a grey and black face design, giving this particular F-94WA-8 a slightly more understated look than some of Casio’s more colourful classic digitals.

At just 21 grams, it virtually disappears on the wrist. The compact 38.2 × 33.2 × 8.5 mm case also makes it particularly comfortable for everyday wear and a good option for anyone who prefers the smaller proportions associated with traditional Casio digitals.

Simple, Useful and Familiar

Functionality is classic Casio.

You get regular timekeeping with day and date, a daily alarm, hourly time signal and a 1/100-second stopwatch capable of measuring up to 59 minutes, 59.99 seconds.

There’s also a built-in light for checking the display in darker conditions. It’s a very straightforward package, but that's part of the appeal. There are no unnecessary features or complicated menus — everything is simple and easy to access.

The resin construction also helps keep both the weight and cost down. The F-94WA-8 uses a resin crystal and resin strap, while Casio lists the watch simply as water resistant rather than giving it a higher rated depth.

Seven-Year Battery

One of the strongest practical features is its battery life.

The F-94WA-8 uses a CR2016 battery, with Casio quoting approximately seven years of battery life under normal operating conditions.

For such a small and inexpensive watch, that's impressive. Fit a battery, set the time and there’s a very good chance you won't need to think about the battery again for years.

The Casio Collector Verdict

The F-94WA-8 isn't trying to be clever, luxurious or packed with technology. It's simply a small, lightweight and dependable Casio digital watch — and that's exactly why I like watches such as this.

Its compact dimensions make it extremely comfortable, the display gives you the information you need at a glance, and the seven-year battery means there's very little to worry about once it's on your wrist.

The F-91W might get most of the attention when people talk about affordable classic Casios, but the F-94WA deserves a place alongside it. It offers the same kind of no-nonsense appeal while having enough of its own character to make it worth owning.

Simple, affordable and unmistakably Casio.
